In Matthew 16:24,25 “Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If any of you wants to be My follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow Me.  If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it.  But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.” You must turn from your selfish ways… This is an imperative call – If we want to follow.  Obviously, our response is not our natural inclination because following Jesus requires a deliberate turning away from what is natural. The night before, Peter and his friends had worked hard fishing, but they caught nothing. Jesus got into one of the boats and asked Peter to take him out where the water was deeper and let down the nets. Peter decided to follow Jesus’ instructions, because Jesus said so - and Peter let the nets down again. The Lord performs a miracle and fills Peter’s net with fish – so much so that Peter needs help to retrieve the fish. “When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me – I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” Jesus was not deterred but replied to Simon “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing...
