By Donna Mitchell, written for Women Journey of Faith Blog Thanks for joining us today as we are reminded of the presence of our Lord even in the midst of a storm! We hope and pray that you are encouraged in your walk of restoration to flourish and grow.   As leaders, the LORD calls us to persevere in following Him and His call on our lives through struggles and trials and challenges.  It can feel like we are walking in the midst of roaring waves!  Along the way, the LORD sends encouragement and words of reassurance to keep going, to press on, to keep believing Him. Yesterday, the LORD gave me a gift of encouragement that redefined the last eight years leading Connecting Streams through many perceived difficulties and challenges… Sandy asked me to come to her place for coffee.  She leads our new cross-fit team at the Edmonton Institute for Women...

January 12th, 2014 D. Mitchell Share This Devo on Facebook and Twitter: Seek God — you won’t be disappointed! http://powertochange.com/blogposts/2014/01/12/resolve-to-seek-him/ ?#LifeDevo “’LORD, help!’ they cried in their trouble, and He rescued them from their distress.” Psalm 107:6, NLT Have you made any resolutions for 2014? For many people, New Year’s resolutions are so seldom kept that some resolve not to make resolutions to avoid disappointment! There is a resolution, however, that the Lord says will bless you. You will be blessed if you resolve to seek God and His help. Psalm 107 outlines four circumstances that many of us find ourselves in at one point or another: wandering in the wilderness, hungry and thirsty having lost our way; sitting in darkness or bondage because we have rebelled against God’s word and counsel; distressed over our sins and choices that have led to destruction; or seeking the good life of success and...

September 7th, 2013 D. Mitchell Share this devo on Facebook or Twitter: How is your memory? http://powertochange.com/blogposts/2013/09/07/remember-the-lord/ #LifeDevo “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again my Savior and my God! (verse 5) “Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember You.” (verse 6) “But each day the LORD pours His unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing His songs, praying to God who gives me life.”(verse 8) Have you ever walked through a difficult time and cried out to the Lord for encouragement? King David often cried out for encouragement from the Lord. The Psalms are full of David’s cries for the Lord to have mercy on him and to lift him out of despair. Often, David would begin his Psalms in distress. He would take his struggles and his fears...

Blog post for Equipping Evangelists By Donna Mitchell Let Jesus wreck your life! I am reflecting often on a book I read recently. I am recommend it to everyone – it has profoundly affected me. “A passion to follow Jesus” are words used to describe Katie Davis. Katie wrote her story in Kisses from Katie, now a New York Times Bestseller. Katie explains in the introduction that “Jesus wrecked my life.” Most of us don’t want to let Jesus wreck our life – at least, not completely. I was moved by Katie’s willingness to leave her comfort zone in Tennessee at the age of 19 to begin a ministry for children in Uganda. Her biggest fear was not the danger, uncertainty and risks she experienced in Uganda but she was “more terrified of living a comfortable life in a self-serving society and failing to follow Jesus.” The Lord’s messages and insights...

By David Arrol Macfarlane What would it take to kill the Canadian evangelical church? Obviously not persecution because history shows that in times of great attack the church gets purified, strengthened and grows underground as it falls to its knees. But what if it were to destroy itself? If somehow the average Canadian Christians could be lulled into apathy and be deceived into believing that the church is meant to be just a social club to meet their needs instead of the instrument of God to change the world with the gospel? If the church can be stopped from reproducing, how long will it continue to exist? Here is my list of ten things that will surely kill our evangelical churches in Canada with rapidity: 1.       Growing congregations by “stealing believers” from other churches – instead of intentionally working hard to learn how to win people for Christ today and...

Woman's Devotional for Power to Change - By Donna Mitchell “Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.’ An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. ‘Why are you sleeping?’ he asked them. ‘Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.’” (Luke 22:39-46) When we hear stories of people enduring through impossible circumstances, I...
